Get the app experience straight from the website

Yokoso runs in two places, and they are the same app. The website is where new material, fixes, and features land the day they are ready. The iOS App Store version is that same app wrapped for the store, and every update to it goes through App Store review. Review has been taking three to four weeks lately, so the store copy usually sits a few weeks behind the web copy.

That is worth knowing, and it is nobody's fault. If you would rather install from the App Store, please do: it is a real app, it works offline, and it is the same product. This page is for the other option. Adding the website to your home screen takes about a minute. Yokoso gets its own icon, opens full screen with no browser bars, keeps working offline, and quietly stays on the newest version without you doing anything.

iPhone and iPad

Use Safari for this one. (Recent versions of iOS let Chrome add to the home screen too, but Safari is the path that works on every iPhone.)

Open yokosoapp.com in Safari. Any page of the app is fine. The shortcut you make will point at the app itself.
Tap the Share button in the toolbar. It is the square with an arrow pointing up out of the top of it.
Scroll down and tap Add to Home Screen. It sits in the list of actions below the row of apps, next to a plus inside a square.
Tap Add. Rename it first if you like. The Yokoso icon lands on your home screen and opens full screen from then on.

Android

Chrome handles this on nearly every Android phone. Some phones also offer an install banner on their own; if one appears, tapping it does the same thing as the steps below.

Open yokosoapp.com in Chrome. Let the app finish loading once so it has everything it needs.
Tap the three-dot menu button at the top right of the browser bar.
Tap Add to Home screen, or Install app if that is what your version of Chrome calls it. Both do the same thing.
Confirm with Add or Install. The Yokoso icon appears alongside your other apps and opens full screen.

Questions people ask

Does it work offline? Yes, after the first load. The app keeps its material on your device, so flights, tunnels, and an apartment that is still waiting on an internet appointment all work fine.

Where does my progress live? On your device. If you want the same progress on a second device, Settings → Sync shows a fingerprint word; match it on the other device and your progress travels with you.

Is this the same app as the App Store one? Yes. Same material, same spaced repetition, same offline behavior. The only difference is timing: the home screen version updates itself whenever a new version ships, and the App Store version updates once review clears.

Do I need an account? No. No email, no password, no signup screen. Open it and start.

Can I remove it later? Yes, the same way you remove any icon: press and hold, then remove. Nothing is left behind on your phone.
