Effective July 26, 2026. Yokoso is built to be used, not litigated, so these terms are short and in plain language.
Yokoso is a Japanese-learning app. Every learning feature is free, with no ads and no locked learning content. The app is provided as-is: it teaches practical Japanese and tracks your progress honestly, but it makes no guarantee about exam results or fluency timelines.
Optional supporter subscriptions and one-time tips fund development. Every learning feature stays free whether or not you support; supporters get the optional Glass look, a cosmetic theme and the only thing supporting changes. Subscriptions renew monthly until canceled and can be canceled anytime: purchases made in the iOS app are managed through your App Store subscription settings and are governed by Apple's standard End User License Agreement; purchases made on the web are processed by Stripe and managed through the receipt emailed to you. Canceling never removes any feature or any of your progress.
Your learning data lives on your device and, if you enable sync, in your sync group. You can export it or erase it at any time from Settings. Details in the privacy policy: no ads, no data sales, and no third-party trackers. If you turn on sync, your synced learning activity also helps us understand how Yokoso is used, in aggregate, to improve it. Optional features use named service providers, and only when you turn them on.
Don't abuse the sync service, attempt to access other users' data, or resell the app's content. That's the whole list.
The WaniKani import uses an API token you supply and remains subject to WaniKani's own terms. The Bunpro import is paused: Bunpro removed the public API it used, so it cannot run, and it would resume under the same conditions if that API returns. Yokoso is not affiliated with WaniKani or Bunpro.
If these terms change materially, the change will be dated here. Questions: james@yokosoapp.com.
